Bertie's advice on Repair kits

With Fish coming up here are a few ideas of what you should have in your boat on race day.
Below is a list of items which you should carry in your boat at all times.
This will alleviate the problem of having to wait for your mates, if they are behind you, or for the sweeps

1. Spare paddle

2. Cell Phone (In a good dry bag, don't buy a cheap one)

3. Repair Kit in a dry bag

• Leatherman or similar
  
• Seat Pin
  
• Wing Nuts and screws
  
• Spare piece of cable
  
• Cable joiners
  
• Gemken
  
• Duct tape 2 rolls
  
• Chamois (to dry your boat before repairs)
  
• Cable ties
  
• Rudder Pin
  
• Rudder Blade
  

For more technical and longer rivers like Juksei, Vaal Parys area, Drak, Duzi etc the following can be added:-

• Fibreglass, resin & activator & accessories (ask your local canoe shop foradvice)


• Deltacast


• Surgical Gloves for applying Gemken, Deltacast or Fibregass


• 2 x wooden broom handles or similar taped to your buoyancy at the back of your boat (it saves you time looking for straight branches and then having to cut them off the tree) to use as splints


• Rope Tie Downs
